The short answer

Does a bed bridge fit your mattresses?

The Bedbinder Deluxe fits two mattresses side by side:

Two full queens are the common case where it does not: at 120 inches they are beyond any single band, and two queen beds together explains what to do instead.

  • Two Twin or two Twin XL mattresses, each 31 to 47 inches wide and up to 80 inches long.
  • That covers a twin-to-king setup and a split king on a static frame or where only the head end adjusts.
  • It does not join two Full, Queen, or King mattresses; those are rarely used in pairs.

No gap measurement needed: the Bedbinder pulls the mattresses together until the gap is gone.

By setup

Which combinations work, in real dimensions?

Checked against actual US mattress sizes.

Setup Mattress width (each) Combined width Fits the Bedbinder Deluxe
Two Twin (38″ × 75″) 38″ 76″ Yes
Two Twin XL (38″ × 80″), split king 38″ 76″ Yes, static frame or head-end adjustable
Twin + Twin XL (mismatched pair) 38″ each 76″ Yes, up to 1.2″ height difference
Two Full (54″ × 75″) 54″ 108″ No, wider than the strap range
Two Queen (60″ × 80″) 60″ 120″ No, uncommon pairing regardless

The strap spans 102 inches (260 cm), long enough to wrap under two 80-inch Twin XL mattresses with slack to spare. The mattress-width range is the limiting factor, not the strap length.

The measurement you don't need

Why doesn't gap width matter here?

Foam wedges are sold by gap width, typically 1.5 to 3 inches, because a wedge has to be shaped to fill the specific space between your mattresses. Measure wrong and it either won't fit or leaves a visible sliver.

A horizontal bed bridge works differently. It doesn't fill the gap, it removes it.

The straps pull both mattresses together until they touch, so the same one-size Bedbinder Deluxe works whether your gap started at half an inch or three inches wide.

One universal size, no gap measurement needed. See the full horizontal vs vertical comparison for how the two approaches differ.

The honest limit

What about adjustable frames?

  • Static frame or only the head end adjusts: the Bedbinder Deluxe fits.
  • Head and foot ends both move: not the right fit. A shorter 60 cm version exists for that setup; it is not in our own shop, so get in touch.

When the two are not the same

What if your two mattresses do not match?

Two mattresses bought at the same time are the easy case. Most people do not have that.

Different heights

A difference of an inch or so disappears under a mattress pad and you will not feel it. Beyond that, the band starts pulling the lower mattress upward instead of sideways, and you get a step at the seam. The fix is levelling, usually a pad or a topper on the lower side, not a tighter strap.

Different lengths

A Twin next to a Twin XL leaves a five inch step at the foot end. Everything holds, but the shape is visible and no fitted sheet hides it fully. Worth knowing before you order rather than after.

Different firmness

Joining two mattresses makes one surface, not one feel. If one side is soft and the other firm, that boundary stays where it is. A connector removes the gap, not the difference between two mattresses.

Different ages

An older mattress with a dip in it pulls the newer one toward the dip once the two are joined. If one of the two is near the end of its life, that shows up faster after joining than before.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions about sizing

Honest answers, including the setups that don't fit.

What size mattresses does the Bedbinder Deluxe fit?

It fits two Twin or two Twin XL mattresses, each 31 to 47 inches wide and up to 80 inches long. That covers a twin-to-king setup and a split king. It does not join two Full, Queen, or King mattresses, since those are not typically sold in pairs.

How do I measure the gap between my mattresses?

You don't need to. A horizontal bed bridge pulls both mattresses together until the gap closes, so it works the same whether your gap started at half an inch or three inches wide. Gap-width measuring only matters for a foam wedge, which is sized to fill a specific gap.

Does the Bedbinder Deluxe work if my mattresses are different heights?

Yes, a small height difference of a couple of centimeters (about an inch) is fine. The strap system flexes to that difference and still pulls both mattresses tight against each other.

Does the Bedbinder Deluxe fit an adjustable split king frame?

Yes, as long as only the head ends adjust. If both the head and foot ends move, the Bedbinder Deluxe is not the right fit; a shorter 60 cm version exists for that setup, reach out via the contact page.

What is the difference between a split king and twin-to-king setup?

Both use two Twin XL mattresses side by side. A split king sits on an adjustable frame, a twin-to-king setup sits on a normal static frame. The same Bedbinder Deluxe fits both on a static frame or where only the head end adjusts.

How strong are the buckles?

The renewed, reinforced nylon buckles are strong up to 550 kg and carry a 7-year warranty. If one ever breaks, you get a new Bedbinder.
