What is a mattress gap filler?
A mattress gap filler is a foam strip or wedge that sits in the gap between two mattresses. It fills that space while the mattresses stay put, but it doesn't hold them together, so when they slide apart, the gap comes back. The Bedbinder Deluxe bed bridge works differently: a wide band goes over both mattresses, and three straps underneath hold them together.

A gap filler is also called a bed gap filler, a mattress wedge or a foam bed bridge.
The gap filler isn't the problem. Your mattresses are moving.
At night the foam sits neatly in the gap. But every time one of you turns over, the mattresses slide a little further apart. So by morning the gap filler has sunk into the crack, or it's lying crooked on one side.

Take out the gap filler and push the mattresses as close together as you can. Lay the Bedbinder across the middle of the bed: straps on one side, buckles on the other.

Lift the side of each mattress a little and pull the straps under it, over to the buckle side.
Buckle up and tuck under
Thread the straps through the buckles and pull them snug. Not too tight: once the mattresses can't move apart, it's right. Then tuck the buckles under the mattress.

And then?
Make the bed as one bed: a mattress pad and one large fitted sheet over both, because your two mattresses are now one surface. In the first week the band can settle a little, so check it then and tighten the straps a touch if needed.
Will it fit my bed?
Only the width and the height matter: 55 to 79 inches (140 to 200 cm) wide in total, with mattresses 6 to 14 inches (15 to 35 cm) thick. How long your bed is makes no difference, and one Bedbinder is enough, also on a king. Does only the head section move? Then place the Bedbinder a little lower, between the hinge points.

What is a mattress gap filler?

Is there a pad to fill the gap between two mattresses?
Yes, a foam gap filler pad or wedge fills it, and a topper can cover the seam. Neither keeps the mattresses from moving apart, though. If yours slide, tie them together with the Bedbinder first, then put the topper on top if you like.
Can you make a DIY bed gap filler?
Yes, a rolled towel or a pool noodle in a pillowcase fills the gap for a night. But like a store-bought gap filler, it connects nothing, so the gap returns as soon as the mattresses drift.

Hold the two mattresses together. A zip and link bed is two single beds zipped side by side, but the mattresses on top can still pull apart and leave a gap in the middle. Can you feel the Bedbinder when you lie on it?
No. The Bedbinder is 0.04 inch (0.1 cm) thin and lies flat across the middle, so under your fitted sheet you don't feel it.
Does it work on a split king adjustable bed?
Yes, if only the head section moves. Place the Bedbinder a little lower, on the flat part between the hinge points. If the head and the foot both move, we don't recommend it.

In 2007, after a night at a hotel by SnowWorld in Landgraaf, it hit me in the shower the next morning: those mattresses had to be tied together. Still, back home I first made the rounds of the bed stores. They offered me foam bridges and non-slip pads. But filling the gap wasn't the point, so I made something that holds the mattresses together myself.
