What is a split king bed? Two Twin XLs that make one king, where you can still meet in the middle
A split king bed is a king made of two Twin XL mattresses, so each side can adjust on its own. The split king bed bridge from Bedbinder Deluxe holds both together, so you can meet in the middle.

- Close the gapboth Twin XLs stay together
- Keep the adjustabilitythe head of your side still moves
- You can't feel itflat under your fitted sheet
- One bed againyou can meet in the middle
From each on your own Twin XL to together in the middle of one king.
Picture it: you raise your head to read while your partner sleeps flat beside you. Then the light goes out, you lower your side and slide toward the middle. And there's no crack under you anymore, just one bed.
Will we still feel the seam?
“… The mattresses are locked together, you no longer feel the seam and the bed lies as one piece.”
Translated from Dutch · Show original
“… De matrassen zitten muurvast aan elkaar, je voelt de naad niet meer en het bed ligt als één geheel.”Problems with split king adjustable beds: why the gap keeps coming back
Do you reach for each other at night, and find the crack between your mattresses instead?
That isn't a defect, it's how a split king is built. Two mattresses lie side by side, and nothing holds them together. So every move nudges them a little, and on an adjustable bed raising one head pulls them out of line.
That's why the fix is to hold the two mattresses together, on the flat part where the bed barely moves.

How to keep a split king together, so it feels like one king
After these three steps your split king is one bed again, and each of you still raises your own head. It takes 60 seconds and no tools.

Bed flat, mattresses together
Lower both sides and push the two Twin XLs tight against each other. Now you can see where the flat part begins.

Bedbinder on the flat part, straps under
Lay the Bedbinder across both mattresses below the hinge, never over it: straps on one side, buckles on the other. Then pull the straps under both mattresses.

Buckle, tuck under, raise a head
Pull the straps snug through the buckles, not too tight, and tuck the buckles under the mattress. Then raise one head and check: the mattresses stay together.
The Bedbinder Deluxe bed bridge holds two mattresses together, so the gap in the middle closes. You may also know it as a bed bridge or a mattress connector.

Will it fit your split king?
And then?
Make the bed as one king: a mattress pad and one king fitted sheet on a flat bed, or a split-head king sheet if the heads move on their own. In the first week the band can settle a little, so check it then and tighten the straps a touch if needed.
Split king vs king: which bed do you have, and what does it need?
A king is one mattress, while a split king is two, because two Twin XLs make a king. So pick your bed, and see straight away what it needs.
A regular king: one mattress
Then there's no gap, because there's only one mattress, and one king fitted sheet covers it. So you don't need a Bedbinder. The trade-off: the bed moves as one piece, so you can't each raise your own side.

A split king where only the heads move
Then it works. Lay the Bedbinder on the flat part and pull it snug, so each of you still raises your own head while the mattresses stay together underneath.

A split king where head and foot both move
Then we don't recommend the Bedbinder. Daniël is happy to help you find another fix, free of charge, such as fastening the mattresses to the base with hook-and-loop tape. They'll slide a lot less, though you'll feel the gap more than with a Bedbinder.

Two Twin XLs on a flat base or box spring
Then it works too, and it's the simplest case. The Bedbinder goes across the middle of the bed, and afterwards one king fitted sheet goes over both mattresses.
Is there a topper on your split king? That works too: first the Bedbinder around the mattresses, then the topper on top.

Neither one is better for every couple. So here's a simple way to choose.

Can we lie in the middle again?
“Finally no more groove between our mattresses. Especially if you like to lie a bit more in the middle of the bed, that was pretty annoying for us. Since we started using the Bedbinder DeLuxe, the mattresses stay together well.”
Translated from Dutch · Show original
“Eindelijk geen gleuf meer tussen onze matrassen! Vooral als je graag wat meer in het midden van het bed ligt, was dat bij ons behoorlijk irritant. Sinds we de Bedbinder DeLuxe gebruiken blijven de matrassen goed bij elkaar.”Does it really make one bed?
“Does exactly what they say, turns two separate beds into one bed, really a great buy for us”

“Doet precies wat ze zeggen, maakt van twee losse bedden een bed echt een super koop voor ons”Questions about split king beds
Not sure what your bed can do? Ask Daniël. He answers himself, within one business day.
Is a split king just two Twin XL beds?
Yes. A split king is two Twin XL mattresses side by side, each 38 x 80 inches, often on two adjustable bases. Together they're 76 x 80 inches, the size of a king.
Is a split king the same size as a king?
Yes. Both are 76 x 80 inches. The difference is that a king is one mattress, while a split king is two Twin XLs, so each side can move on its own.
Can you feel the gap in a split king?
Yes, most of the time. Two mattresses meet in the middle with rounded edges, and they drift apart as you move. Once they're held together, the gap closes and the middle is flat again.
Can you still cuddle on a split king?
Yes, once the two mattresses stay together. With a Bedbinder on the flat part, both Twin XLs lie tight against each other, so you can lie in the middle while each head still adjusts, as long as only the heads move.
Do regular king sheets fit a split king?
Yes, on a flat bed, because a king fitted sheet is 76 x 80 inches too. If the heads move on their own, use a split-head king fitted sheet with a split-head mattress pad underneath.
Is a split king better than a king?
No, not for every couple. A split king lets each of you adjust your own side, while a king has no gap at all. Held together with a Bedbinder, a split king gives you both, as long as only the heads move.
Is half of a king size bed a Twin XL?
Yes. A king is 76 x 80 inches, and a Twin XL is 38 x 80 inches, exactly half. That's why two Twin XLs make a split king.
Does the Bedbinder work if the head and foot both adjust?
No, then we don't recommend it. Daniël will help you for free, for example by fastening the mattresses to the base with hook-and-loop tape.

Why Daniël first asks how your split king moves
Every so often someone calls me about a split king. So I ask one question first: does only the head move, or the foot too? If only the head moves, I tell them: put the Bedbinder a bit lower, on the flat part, and your split king is one bed again. If the foot moves too, the wide band gets pinched, so we look for another fix together. I give that advice for free.
