A split king bed uses two twin XL mattresses on separate adjustable bases. Each side moves independently. It is the perfect setup for couples with different sleep preferences.

But there is always a gap. Two separate mattresses always leave a crack in the middle. And on an adjustable base, the gap is harder to fix because the mattresses move.

Most gap fillers are designed for flat, static beds. They fail on split king adjustable beds. Here is what works and what does not.

• Foam wedges: They pop out every time you adjust the head or foot position. Not designed for moving beds.
• Toppers: A single topper over two mattresses cannot flex when each side adjusts independently. It bunches up and pulls loose.
• Fitted sheets: A king-size fitted sheet cannot hold mattresses together on an adjustable base. The elastic snaps or pulls off.
• Duct tape or DIY straps: They restrict the adjustable base and can damage the mattress.
