How to install a bed bridge

It takes less than a minute and zero tools. Here is exactly how to set up the Bedbinder Deluxe and start sleeping on one smooth surface tonight.

A bed bridge connects two separate mattresses into one sleeping surface. But not all bed bridges install the same way.

A foam wedge (vertical bed bridge) just sits in the gap. It creates a bump and does not stop the mattresses from sliding apart. The Bedbinder Deluxe is a horizontal bed bridge. It wraps around both mattresses and physically connects them. No bump. No sliding. No gap.

Here is how to install it in three simple steps.

What you need before you start

  • Two mattresses pushed together (any size from 80x200 to 120x200 cm)
  • The Bedbinder Deluxe
  • A fitted sheet that covers both mattresses (e.g. 180x200 for two 90x200 mattresses)

That is all. No tools. No tape. No screws. No extra hardware.

Three steps to a connected bed

Placing the Bedbinder Deluxe over the middle of two mattresses

Step 1: Place it over the middle

Lay the Bedbinder flat over the spot where your two mattresses meet. Center it so it covers both mattress edges equally. The wide fabric panel sits on top of the gap.

Pulling the Bedbinder straps under both mattresses

Step 2: Pull the straps under

Pull the straps under both mattresses so they wrap around firmly from underneath. The straps go all the way around and come back up on the other side.

Step 3: Click the buckles

Click the buckles together underneath the mattresses. Tighten the straps until both mattresses are pulled firmly together. Put the fitted sheet on top. Done. You now have one smooth bed.

Tips for the best result

Tighten the straps firmly

The Bedbinder works by pulling the mattresses together. The tighter the straps, the better the connection. You want both mattresses pressed firmly against each other with no space between them.

Use the right sheet size

A fitted sheet that is too small will pop off during the night. Measure both mattresses together and pick a sheet that matches. For two 90x200 mattresses, you need a 180x200 sheet. For two 80x200 mattresses, you need a 160x200 sheet.

Keep the bed frames close together

The Bedbinder holds the mattresses together, but the bed frames should be close too. Push them against a wall or use furniture pads under the legs to stop them from sliding on hard floors.

Check it once a month

The Bedbinder stays in place for months. But it is a good habit to lift the sheet once a month and check that the straps are still tight. If they have loosened, just retighten the buckles. This takes about 10 seconds.

What about different mattress heights?

Many couples have two mattresses that are not exactly the same height. This is completely normal and the Bedbinder handles it well.

For height differences up to 3 cm, the Bedbinder connects the mattresses without any issues. The fitted sheet smooths out the transition. You will barely notice the difference when lying down.

The Bedbinder Deluxe works on all standard single mattress sizes from 80x200 to 120x200 cm. It is compatible with foam, spring, latex, and hybrid mattresses. It also works on adjustable beds, boxsprings, and split king beds.

Why not just use a foam wedge?

Woman frustrated with a foam wedge that creates a bump between mattresses

A foam wedge is not a real bed bridge

A foam wedge sits in the gap and fills it. But it creates a bump you can feel every time you roll over. And it does nothing to stop the mattresses from sliding apart. After a few weeks, the foam compresses and the gap comes back.

The Bedbinder works underneath. It physically connects both mattresses so the gap cannot form. No bump. No sliding. Read our full Bedbinder vs foam wedge comparison.
